What can i tell you about Australia

December 2017, I finally reached one of my long-term destinations - the continent of Australia. I had been mesmerized by australian aboriginal art since the moment i first saw an exhibition of it 20 years ago, so it was a long awaited encounter.

In Australia, they call restrooms "toilets", everybody has a slight sunburn on their face and a surfboard in their closet, they tap credit cards on the register when they make purchases, and sometimes they say "fair dinkum", meaning of which is so elusive only a real Australian is able to make use of it.

Here's some of my favorite moments from the trip:

One lovely afternoon my friend Paul took us hiking in Yarra Ranges Park and it had the biggest ferns I've ever seen and mountain ash trees, which are a kind of eucalyptus.

A trip down the Great Ocean road culminated in a surfing session and I even caught a ride or two in the splendid water of the Pacific.

The Brighton bathing boxes were striking in their vibrancy, and the Melbourne skyline beautiful in the bright summer sun)

National Gallery of Victoria had some great contemporary art.

I also enjoyed the collection of contemporary Aboriginal art at the Ian Potter Gallery.

It was eye-opening to hang out with the locals and enjoy the many facets of Australian culture, nature and creativity. I'll be sure to go back in the not too distant future. I'll be excited to hear from you about your findings in Australia, in comments. In the meantime, i'm wildly inspired to produce new work :) if you're not my IG follower yet, be sure to add my IG channel for some stimulating content.
